How to Become a Dance Teacher

Have you a passion for Dance? Do you have a desire to pass on your knowledge and expertise to others? Are you looking for a rewarding profession through Dance?

In order to enter students for graded examinations with BTDA/GQAL you must: 

  • Achieve a Dance Teaching Qualification
  • Complete technical assessments based on the BTDA programme of studies in each discipline you wish to enter students for examinations in Classical Ballet, Modern Jazz or Tap
  • Complete technical assessments or courses based on the BTDA programme of studies in each discipline you wish to enter students for examinations in Acrobatic, Lyrical, Greek and Contemporary.
  • Become a Teacher Member with BTDA. 

What do you need to do?

In cases where teachers already hold a teaching qualification with another CDMT accredited body, completion of our Certificate in Dance Teaching may not be required.

To enter students for Performance Awards only, the Certificate in Dance Teaching Qualification and Technical Assessments are not necessarily required, subject to current qualifications.

The Certificate in Dance Teaching is a stand-alone qualification and can be studied without registering as a BTDA Teacher.

Please contact Head office for a Teacher Pack, all applications are assessed on an individual basis.

We encourage applications from Teachers who have previously trained with other accredited organisations, most qualifications can cross over at the same level.
